About Us

The Consortium of Ethics for Public Policies on Artificial Intelligence for Latin America and the Caribbean (EticALIA)  aims to discuss AI research in relation to ethics and societal challenges such as Sustainable Development (SD), and the use of AI technologies in the most varied areas and sectors of LAC societies to mapping the sensitive points of AI use.

The main question that guides the Consortium:

What can be done to increase the capacity of LAC countries to produce ethical high-tech AI policies and research?

What can be done to increase the capacity of LAC countries to produce ethical high-tech AI policies and research?

Activities

Investigating how certain actors relate to the promotion, implementation and regulation of AI in the region.

We are focused on the following issues:

1) The challenges and ethical dilemmas in the research, implementation and regulation of AI in different segments in LAC;

2) Proposals to produce inclusive tools, and minimizing biases for the promotion of social well-being;

3) The impacts of AI on users;

4) Public policies that can incorporate academic concerns about biases and threats in the implementation and regulation of AI: and

5) Education model needed to form AI developers and researchers who are able to produce ethical high tech for grand societal challenges and AI literacy model to improve citizens’ understanding of AI and develop critical competencies for its adoption.

Expected Results

As a result, the activities of the consortium must be conducted to generate documents with recommendations and panoramas for Latin American countries. But, most importantly, they must mainly become concrete actions for preserving the well-being of people, non-human animals, and the environment in LAC by protecting life, culture and language. It is expected that, mainly, these concrete actions will become visible through the development of education and literacy actions.
